49 - who is Demon

The four of them walked along the path and soon arrived at a small town. From afar, they saw a figure standing motionless at the entrance of the elementary school.

Too far away to make out the person's features, but something felt off.

He stood there like a rock, not moving an inch, his dry, cloudy eyes fixed on them.

A chill went through them all.

It's always unsettling to be stared at.

But to be stared at by a weirdo in such a creepy place? Instant goosebumps.

"This actor's really dedicated, playing it so real," Ethan mumbled.

No one answered, either too nervous or just not wanting to deal with Ethan. All that could be heard was their own heavy breathing.

After a long while, Ian finally spoke, "Don't be scared. Just remember, all the demons are just people in costumes."

"And here's a little trick I can teach you!"

  Everyone perked up, listening intently.

"You can mess with the actors!" Ian said with a smile. "That way, you not only minimize your own fear but also catch them off guard."

"Think about it, isn't it cute when you catch an actor by surprise?"

Cindy giggled, covering her mouth. "I can picture it."

Liam and Ethan exchanged glances, a sly grin on their faces.

"Liam, what are you laughing at?"

  "What are you laughing at?"

"I was wondering if there are any actresses in there?"

  "Haha, me too!"

  "So, later... wanna team up?"

  "Sure!"

Too bad Jake couldn't hear them. He'd definitely give them a thumbs up.

The demon at the village entrance saw their excitement.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

  He chuckled to himself.

  Laugh, will you?

Just wait, you'll be crying soon enough!

Before long, the four of them reached the entrance to Demon's Town, face to face with the village demon.

Now they could see the demon's appearance clearly.

Except for Ian, their pupils shrank and their breathing quickened.

The demon was pleased with the effect he was having, feeling smug.

Guess I haven't lost my touch!

Been so long since I've been out scaring people.

But this little test run proves I'm as good as ever!

  Ian cleared his throat.

The others snapped out of it.

Liam mustered his courage and stepped forward, approaching the demon.

  The demon was taken aback.

Then something even more baffling happened.

Liam gently patted him on the shoulder and said, "Dude, you're really dedicated. The boss is a slave driver. We're all off work, and you're still on overtime. That overtime pay must be tough to earn!"

  The demon: "..."

  Who am I?

  Where am I?

What am I supposed to do?

He was briefly lost in thought.

Ian pointed at the demon, who was lost in thought, looking like he knew everything.

Emboldened by Liam's example, the other two gained confidence.

Cindy stepped forward, lightly patting the demon on the shoulder with a smile. "This is the first time I've played in a haunted house like this. It's so much fun!"

Ethan slapped the demon hard on the other shoulder. "Dude, you've got some serious willpower, standing still like that. How do you do it? Let's talk sometime!"

Ian walked up and smiled, "Your cosplay is pretty good. Even as a professional, I can't find any flaws yet."

Listening to the four of them chattering away.

The demon was bewildered, lost in thought.

  What's going on?

Why aren't these people scared of him at all?

Could it be that he's been sealed away for too long and his scare tactics haven't kept up with the times?

Time to learn some modern scare techniques!

The group passed by the pensive demon and officially entered the town.

The scene inside the village wasn't much different from what they saw outside: empty and desolate. That was the main theme here.

The buildings along the road were visibly dilapidated, and a rotten stench permeated the entire town.

The streets were splattered with blood.

"The scene setup is still perfect, almost flawless!" Ian praised.

Cindy was already eager to explore Demon's Town and immediately suggested, "Why don't we split up? Playing in a haunted house with four people is no fun. Not thrilling enough!"

Ian nodded. "Sounds good to me."

For a seasoned player like him, playing in a haunted house alone was definitely more fun than being with other people.

Liam and Ethan grinned, agreeing with Cindy's suggestion without hesitation.

They had been planning to break away from the group and go solo.

After all, there was a girl in the group, and messing with female ghosts would be a little awkward.

Besides, after what just happened, they weren't afraid of Demon's Town anymore.

  What's the big deal?

Just a bunch of actors, right?

Didn't you see how dumbfounded that last one was?

  Nothing to be afraid of!

To those actors playing demons, Ethan wanted to shout out, "I'll take on ten of you!"

"Alright, see you later!" Cindy said goodbye and ran towards the distant church.

Generally speaking, a church, such an important building, must have the scariest things inside.

"I'm off too," Ian said slowly, strolling aimlessly around the town.

Liam and Ethan went together, searching the haunted house with a specific purpose.

As they searched, they discussed a thousand ways to mess with the actresses.
