57 - One Last Ride

Seeing the kind of ride he'd only ever dreamed of, Jake couldn't contain his excitement. He dashed over to the Porsche sports car and circled it several times.

Then, with a sigh of contentment, he slipped into the driver's seat.

  "This feeling..."

Jake ran his hands over everything inside, from the steering wheel to the console, to the leather seats beneath him. Nothing felt out of place!

  "Holy crap, this is amazing!"

  "If I didn't know I was in a game, I'd swear I was driving a real Porsche!"

Jake knew right then that this arcade would drive gamers wild!

Even people who didn't usually play would probably be tempted to try it out.

"Hey, noob, what's taking so long? Did the Green Hell scare you so bad you almost peed your pants?"

Just then, a Ferrari pulled up beside Jake. The window rolled down, and a blonde-haired, blue-eyed driver gave him the middle finger.

The Ferrari roared to life, its tires smoking, and shot off like a rocket!

"What the hell? A stupid NPC trying to show off!"

"Today, I'm going to teach you a lesson, I bet Liam won't find a girlfriend in this lifetime, or the next!"

Jake was furious. He took a deep breath, gripped the steering wheel gently, and put his foot on the gas, closing his eyes for a moment.

In his mind, he was picturing an awesome start.

He would tap the accelerator, tires smoking as he was launching. Drifting around the turn, leaving a trail.

Followed by cheers and applause from the crowd.

A faint smile played on Jake's lips, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

"Okay, I'm feeling it, it's coming together!"

  "Let's go!"

  Jake floored the gas pedal!

  "Vroom!"

The engine roared like a wild beast.

The car shot off like an arrow, leaving a blur in its wake.

  Ten seconds later!

  "BOOM!"

A huge crash. Jake's car had careened off the track and slammed into a tree.

The violent impact tore open the fuel tank and engine, sending flames skyward, consuming everything.

A moment later, a white light emerged from the fire and landed back at the starting point, reforming into Jake.

He looked around in confusion, bewildered.

  What just happened?

All he remembered was flooring it, and then he was off the track.

It was nothing like the script he'd imagined!

"This is way too real!" Jake cried.

He thought it would be like those arcade racing games where you just hammer the keys and you are driving like a pro.

But this was like a real experience!

  Which resulted in the tragedy!

"Humph." Jake snorted, turned and walked back into the garage, hopping into the newly respawned Porsche.

He started it up, but was super cautious this time, he gently pressed on the gas and the car was basically just moving along.

"At least it's steady that way." Jake muttered to himself.

The Ferrari returned again, sitting beside Jake at a crawling pace.

Jake immediately felt something was off.

"Hey, buddy, you driving a grandpa mobile?" The other driver laughed while sticking a finger out the window, "C'mon, i've been waiting so long the flowers are about to die!"

Then he inhaled all the fumes being released by the Ferrari.

"What the hell? Is this guy dissing me? " Jake said, " Today, I have to show him what speed actually means!"

  "Power Launch!"

  "Here we GO!"

He once again slammed on the accelerator.

  A few seconds later

Fire once again illuminated the area.

"Whew." Jake sat back in a new Porsche, he calmed himself down and told himself, there is no need to road rage.

He drove the Porsche onto the Green Hell road.

It was pretty obvious that the track was a very bad place to speed around at.

Every place besides green was still just green, nothing else.

The saving grace was that he wasn't in a relationship with Lynn yet.

Besides for the track being hidden by green trees, the bends and turns made it near impossible for anyone to take the road.

Even if there was just a slight acceleration, you would soon find yourself back to square one.

He had already died several times within a few hours.

He was starting to feel a bit crazy at this point.

Especially with that Ferrari that loved to just drive past.

"One more time, just one more time!"

"If I finish one lap, I will rest up!"

He once again materialized at spawn, reminding himself what the end goal was.

After a few hours passed, he was still just being yeeted into trees.

If anyone tried to kill themselves more than Jake, they'd come in a close second.

"Warning, system user has become unstable, we will be starting health system and will forcibly remove you from the server."

Not long after that, Jake heard the robotic voices as he blacked out. He later appeared at the main console.

Jake got up and touched the side of the simulator as he remarked, " Good game, but very hard with annoyingly smart AI."

  " But, a negative becomes a positive."

" The game's realistic gameplay and difficulty will become a must for other players. "

Jake had expected a much larger turn out when the store actually went live to the public.

It was an experience like no other.

Even if you dislike video games, you would want to use it as a second life.
