Liam and Ethan's eyes followed the damp, cold, moss-covered well wall downwards, where they saw a round head bobbing in the icy water.
The head's features were bloated from being submerged, like a white balloon. It was impossible to make out its appearance, with long hair floating loosely in the water.
"Glug..."
Liam's face turned ashen, and he swallowed hard, saying, "Ethan, did...did you see that?"
Ethan barely dared to breathe, replying, "A head...it's a human head!"
But then, remembering that they were in a haunted house, most of their fear dissipated.
Liam wiped the cold sweat from his brow and chuckled, "Honey, other than a head in the water, we haven't seen anything else you supposedly dropped!"
"That's what I dropped!" The well ghost giggled.
Ethan waved his burly arms dismissively, "Girl, don't play those kinds of jokes. My little heart can't take that kind of torment!"
"The lady's got a sense of humor. What did we just see if your head had fallen off?" Liam turned his head, and his pupils suddenly shrank, his hair stood on end, and a chill ran down his spine.
He felt like he'd been thrown into an ice cellar, his whole body stiffened, and his limbs trembled instinctively.
The comely girl standing behind them was still so gracefully slender, but above the neck, it was simply empty.
A headless female corpse stood upright behind them, closing in step by step.
"Liam, why aren't you talking?" Ethan, clueless, turned his head to see the scene and was instantly terrified!
The two stood dumbfounded on the spot.
At the same time, the bloated head in the well suddenly began to speak. The sweet voice echoed countless times in the well before reaching their ears.
"Why aren't you two talking?"
"Are you disgusted with how I look?"
"Ah, as expected, men are all two-faced liars."
This bizarre scene dumbfounded Ethan and Liam.
"Ghost!" Ethan's voice rose several octaves, becoming shrill and piercing.
"Smack!"
Just then, Liam slapped Ethan hard across the face, leaving a clear red mark!
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"What did you do that for?" Ethan cried, drawing in a sharp breath of pain.
"I'm testing to see if we're dreaming," Liam said, watching Ethan clutching his aching cheek. "Looks like we aren't."
"You son of a bitch!" Ethan screamed, "If you want to know if you're dreaming, why don't you hit yourself instead of me?"
"Do you think I'm an idiot?" Liam gave Ethan a look of utter disbelief. "Wouldn't it hurt if I hit myself?"
Ethan: "???"
If this wasn't the time for nonsense, Ethan would have fought Liam to the death!
But the urgent priority right now was to run like hell!
Ethan and Liam exchanged a glance, and then they both started, running like their lives depended on it.
The two ran neck and neck, occasionally glancing at each other.
You might think this showed their deep brotherly affection, wanting to check on each other's safety.
But actually, they were just checking each other's speed.
As one literary master once said: "When you encounter danger, you don't need to run faster, you just need to run faster than your companion."
There was no way that the well ghost would let these two plump morsels get away. Smiling gently, her hair grew at a rate visible to the naked eye, reaching dozens of meters long in the blink of an eye and catching up with the fleeing duo.
Strands of hair wrapped around their hands and feet, instantly tripping them to the ground and dragging them little by little towards the well.
"Mercy, good madam!"
"No, please don't!"
The two used everything they knew to beg for their lives!
Unfortunately, the only response they received was the well ghost's sweet smile.
At that moment, this laughter no longer sounded melodious, but like the sinister laughter of death itself, utterly terrifying.
"Darlings, why are you leaving?"
"Didn't we promise to be each other's angels? How can you abandon me now?"
Ethan frantically clawed at the ground, trying to grab onto anything for leverage.
After tearing up countless flowers and plants, Ethan finally realized it was all in vain.
He had no choice but to turn back, trying to move the ghost with words, yelling, "Give up! This way you can only get my body at most, but you can't get my heart. Let me go, and at least we can still be friends!"
"Darlings, you say such hurtful things!"
The well ghost's voice suddenly turned mournful, weeping and sobbing, piercing straight to the heart.
The two were both inexplicably moved. They knew this was a ghost, but they couldn't help but feel a flicker of sympathy once more.
But the will to survive ultimately kept them from giving in to this primal urge.
Seeing that the two wouldn't respond to reason, the well ghost decided to take a coercive approach, forcing the issue.
Her voice changed, becoming as cold as an iceberg, and the temperature seemed to drop below freezing.
"If I can't have you, then I won't let anyone else have you!"
Strands of hair grew again, wrapping around their limbs and up to their necks, then suddenly tightened.
"Humph!"
The two grunted subconsciously as they felt themselves unable to breathe!
The hair grew tighter and tighter!
Their faces turned red, their eyes bulged from their sockets, and small capillaries burst under the pressure, staining their eyes red.
On the verge of death!
The two had already given up struggling.
They say that before a person dies, their past replays quickly like movie scenes.
But for these two, the only thought they had before dying wasn't that, but...
"Ian!"
"Jake!"
"Fuck you!"
Just as their consciousness began to fade, the pendants they wore on their chests suddenly burst into a light!
The light was so dazzling that it spread out and instantly covered the well ghost.
"Ah!"
The well ghost let out a scream.
Her long hair melted and disappeared like snow meeting the sun.
The moment the light appeared, the fierce ghosts lurking in the dark instantly vanished without a trace.
When the light faded, Ethan and Liam were gone.
The well ghost hugged her weak and helpless body, gasping for breath, her gaze fierce as she looked outside Town.
"Consider yourselves lucky today!"
"I'll remember you. One day I'll get out of here, find you, and make you my darlings."
