Despite all our best efforts and hard work

  nothing seems to change as people still suffer.

  That’s when I feel like a failure, a useless jerk

  when horrible injustices still manage to occur.

  People are drowning in the sea trying to get away

  from a government that are corrupt and deadly.

  Citizens just want to be safe rather than the prey

  going to extraordinary lengths just to break free.

  We can’t save them all, I once heard him say

  but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t even try.

  I understand the complicity, the layers of gray

  yet if no effort is made, the pain would multiply.

  We must stick with conviction rather than caution

  because doing nothing is no longer an option.
