I followed the witch through the snowy forest for a while. It was a strange experience, to say the least. She seemed to be in a good mood, at least. She was somehow preventing the snow from colpsing under our weight, so I didn't have to use my wings for once.
After a couple minutes of walking, I started to get a strange feeling. It was like I was going straight into a dead-end. I could clearly see that Camity was going forwards without any issue. Plus, there were no trees in the way.
"If you feel weird, ignore it, it's just the illusion spells I pced to protect my house kicking in. Just follow me and you won't have any problems." (Camity)
Deciding that listening was the best course of action, I started sticking closer to her. Finding out what other spells she had cast around her home was not exactly a priority, especially if the process to find out involved being caught in them.
An entire manor came into view shortly afterwards. With how rge it was, it should have been visible from far away, but it wasn't. I figured that that was probably just the result of another illusion and stopped questionning it.
What I did question, however, was the choice in decor. Why were there skulls everywhere? I couldn't identify what any of them belonged to, but they clearly weren't human, at least. In fact, most of them were way too rge to have belonged to anything other than giant monsters. The huge skulls gave the manor an extremely eerie atmosphere. The fact that it was night also did not help.
"Welcome to my evil ir of eternal suffering! Don't mind the skulls, they are probably way too dead to harm anyone. Let's go inside for now." (Camity)
Was she unaware of how disturbing her pce looked? No, she probably knew and just found it funny. In fact, odds were that she was just messing with me again.
Upon reaching the manor, Camity opened the door and let me take a look inside. It was pink. All of it. The floor was pink, the walls were pink and even the furniture was pink. I was left speechless by the complete shift in asthetic.
"Oh dear, you should see your expression. It is quite funny. Every single room is decorated differently, by the way." (Camity)
"Why?" (Dragonfly)
"Why not? Plus, it's funny." (Camity)
This was absolutely a thing. I didn't know what to make of it, but it certainly was something. Well, at least telling rooms apart would be easy.
"Alright, I guess that makes sense? So, um, what are we doing now?" (Dragonfly)
"Ah, let me bring you to your room. I shall introduce you to my daughter tomorrow. It's getting te, after all." (Camity)
Following her into a hallway that looked surprisingly normal, I passed by a couple doors. One of them had a sign that read "THE room".
"What's up with that room? Is it important?" (Dragonfly)
"Oh, of course, it's extremely important. In fact, I do believe that it's my favorite room in the whole manor. Want to see inside?" (Camity)
I was curious, obviously. I mean, this had to be something important.
...
Yeah, it just had the word "THE" written on the floor. I honestly did not know what I was expecting from that witch.
After a bit more walking, we reached a rger room that looked like a shrine of sorts. In the middle of the room were marble statues of two fox beastfolks with nine tails. One was a woman with a sword in hand while the other was a man who was holding a stack of documents and a pen. They were probably gods, but I was unable to identify them. To be fair, my knowledge of gods was limited to Gcialis, the god of ice and patron deity of the Empire.
"Who are these statues depicting?" (Dragonfly)
"Those two are gods of justice, dear. Do not feel ashamed for being unable to identify them, I am pretty sure that you'd have a hard finding anyone outside of high-level adventurers who know of them." (Camity)
Fox deities of justice? That sounded strange, to say the least. I would have expected them to be trickster gods instead. Wait, was that a joke?
I was about to ask, but the witch went down another corridor before I could say anything, leaving me behind in front of the statues. I caught up rather quickly, and tried to talk, but she pointed at a door before I even had the time to open my mouth.
"That's your room, you can make yourself at home in there. Well, goodnight." (Camity)
She then proceeded to disapear completely, leaving me alone in front of the door. Walking inside the room, I saw that everything looked as if it was made of gold and gemstones. However, I was able to tell that the gold wasn't real and that the gems were fake. I wasn't sure how, but I knew.
Chalking that up to dragon instincts, I id down on the golden bed. It looked like a solid piece of metal, but the mattress was actually quite soft. Finally having a safe pce to rex was nice.
Well, I was still inside the home of a strange witch, but she seemed nice enough. As far as I could tell, she was just extremely eccentric. I couldn't be sure, however...
Still, I was tired and on the most comfortable bed I had ever used. All of my worries were not enough to prevent me from falling asleep.
