Chapter 26- How to stop being lost

When I woke up the next morning, I noticed... nothing of interest. We were still surrounded by trees on all sides. Not sure as to what I was expecting, honestly.

It took us a while to get ready to go. To be fair, we both had to eat and Nix needed my help to get rid of all the dead leaf bits that had gotten stuck to her tail in her sleep. That second thing took longer than the first, but it was absolutely required, according to my friend.

After Nix was satisfied with the state of her tail, we proceeded to set out in the same direction as the previous day. We were still making no visible progress, unfortunately. We did encounter small clearings from time to time, but there really wasn't anything going on.

"If we could see past all trees, this would be way simpler..." (Dragonfly)

"Couldn't you just use your wings to fly above the trees?" (Nix)

The best result that I had obtained so far with my wings was to jump up a few meters higher than usual. That wasn't quite enough to be able to fly. Still, it was worth a shot. I really should have had thought of this earlier.

Making my way over to one of the clearings, I stretched my wings. I hadn't really worked on my flying skills while I was staying at Camity's mansion, unfortunately. To be fair, trying to fly indoors wouldn't have been a great idea anyways.

I set up the crate containing our supplies in the middle of the clearing and climbed on top of it to get some extra height. I braced myself, jumped as high as I could and began fpping my wings. What I didn't expect, however, was that I would actually manage to fly. That moment of surprise may or may not have made me lose my concentration and fall down, but that's not important.

After a bit of reflection, I figured that my two titles that had a strengthening effect on draconic abilities were probably what allowed me to fly properly. It was convenient, so I wasn't going to compin.

Anyways, my second attempt at taking flight worked out properly. I managed to get above the foliage and took a look around. As it turns out, we had been walking parallel to a path the entire time. It was only a couple hundred meters away too. That would've been good to know earlier...

  "See anything up there?" (Nix)

"Yeah, there's a path almost right next to us." (Dragonfly)

  "Oh, cool!" (Nix)

As we discovered shortly afterwards, walking on a clean path is much, much faster than needing to go around bushes and tripping on tree roots every couple steps. I was pretty sure that our speed must have more than doubled, actually. There was a new issue, however.

"Walking like this is kinda boring, actually. Everything looks the same..." (Nix)

  Yeah, Nix was bored.

"Hey, want to go and run as fast as possible?" (Nix)

"Are you sure that that's a goo-" (Dragonfly)

My friend had ran off at full speed without leaving me enough time to answer. I, of course, did the only reasonnable thing in this situation, which was to run after her as fast as possible. Unfortunately for me, my dex stat was, by far, my worst one. Considering the fact that dex was the stat responsible for things like agility, going fast wasn't exactly my specialty.

Nix, on the other hand, seemed to have a bit too much speed. I had no clue as to what her actual level was, tho. She had mentionned that she had fought against a few monsters before, so she wasn't level 1, at least.

I resolved myself to ask her ter, and began trying to fly instead of running to go faster. That went poorly due to my ck of precise control on my flight, but it was worth a shot. Thankfully, Nix had slowed down enough to let me keep up with her without tiring myself out. I wasn't too sure as to why we had bothered walking normally instead of running in the first pce. This was way faster.

A couple hours of running ter, we finally reached the edge of the forest. There was a rge open grassnd in front of us.

  "Yay! No more trees!" (Nix)

"Yeah, we are done with that forest for now. Hey, I think that I see a vilge over there. We should probably go check that out, actually." (Dragonfly)

  "Oh, cool! Let's go!" (Nix)

If you were wondering, yes, she did proceed to sprint away at full speed straight towards the vilge. Why was she so fast...
