Q: How was MoE created?
A:
I had the initial idea in high school. I watched Attack on Titan and thought that many story elements were unique. I’d written small comic books for my younger siblings prior to that, and I thought I’d try writing a full-length novel inspired by it but with the violence toned down. At the time, only 2 seasons were out, so the story spun off into something original after I’d caught up to the “source material”. Proud of my work, I decided to refine it and publish it online in college. The result is what you see!
Of course, it was a lot of effort. I spent 1-2 hours a day on it. To publish weekly, I had to write chapters in advance for weeks I was busy. And it’s not just writing. I had to create the volume covers too. I’m also a perfectionist who wanted a specific font in the book, and Royal Road didn’t have it, so I had to manually alter the HTML code of the website to inject the font for every chapter.
This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.
Q: Future works?
A:
I have come a long way since MoE. I'm a graduate student now!
I’ve recently gotten an idea for a new story written from scratch. I spent the past year planning it (planning and foreshadowing are the best!) and am excited to publish it soon. Imagine an isekai story, but the main character is not a talented dense idiot. I’ve honed my writing skills a lot, so this one should be even better.
Q: Future of MoE?
A:
Unfortunately, I will not be continuing Mayhem on Earth.
I originally planned out a lot more to the story. I divided into five ‘parts’, and only the first is complete. A lot of hints/foreshadowing that you may or may not have observed are related to the future parts. For example, Drake’s last name, the significance of 51, and the letter the President received were supposed to be explained later on. If anyone is interested, I can write a separate chapter outlining/summarizing future events.
MoE will always hold a special place in my heart as my first published novel. The true ending will also remain in my heart, haha.
