Chapter Twenty-Nine: Buying Horses

"What's going on?" Veeri's heart sank instantly. Hanna was a meticulous thinker and would never shoot without a target.

"A young man who might be a civilian, possessing the Dragon Slayer's martial skills, a perfect-grade Hundred-Man Slasher weapon, and yet dares to enter the perilous Crow Ridge Tomb at just Soul Stage 1... Heh heh, would you believe it if I didn't have any ulterior motives?" Hanna took out a handkerchief and wiped off the dirt on her Spirit Staff. "Oh right, his magic stone quality is also very high; adding that up, the total value exceeds 100,000 Gold Delrans."

"Really? Could the legend be true?" Vieri's eyes widened in shock, and then an irrepressible joy appeared on his face.

"Are you talking about the legend that there's a group of imperial tombs buried underground at Crow Ridge Cemetery?" Fanny covered her mouth in shock, "No way?"

"Yes, that's right, don't forget the leather armor he and that ghoul were wearing, it was very old-fashioned and had an ancient style." Hanna recalled every detail of Downton's appearance, becoming more and more certain.

"If you want to know the answer, just follow him. Vieri was eager to try, and hated that he couldn't immediately catch up, 'This time we're lucky, we'll get rich.'"

Even an idiot knows that a tomb group represents a huge wealth.

"I don't think it's possible, if he found the tomb, he would definitely rush to excavate and explore, why waste time saving us strangers?" Fanny retorted, "If I were him, I wouldn't talk to anyone else either, what if the secret gets exposed?"

"There are still some good people in this world." Vieri nodded slightly at Hamlet's mouth, the meaning was self-evident.

Fenny rolled her eyes, yeah, isn't there a knight with a strong sense of morality right in front of us?

Hanna hesitated, the other party had saved the adventure team, by rights she shouldn't have been calculating him, but that possible existing tomb group made her unable to give up, if they really found it, it would bring unimaginable benefits to the family.

"I'd rather keep my opinion to myself, wouldn't it be better if he just left? What if he finds out about Hanna's identity, he'll definitely cling to her like chewing gum and won't let go." Fanny pouted, she had seen too many men without integrity.

"If he had asked for a reward, he wouldn't have left without asking our names. And you've consumed his magic stone, yet he didn't even ask for compensation!" Hamlet, who had been silent until now, furrowed his brow and retorted, "I hope this matter ends here. Everyone should find an opportunity to repay his kindness in saving their lives, rather than thinking about inquiring about the tomb's news."

"Idiot!" Fanny didn't bother to respond to Harley, curled up her lip and muttered a sentence.

"It's not my fault!" Hannah said with a wry smile. She hadn't mentioned Jose's full name earlier, precisely because she was worried that he would recognize her family name and demand an exorbitant fee. But now it seemed that wasn't his intention at all. "Don't worry, I swear on the honor of the eldest daughter of the Jose family, I will repay him double!"

"Ptoo, I don't care what you do? Anyway, I'm going to follow him. An undeveloped tomb, how regrettable if we miss it?" Vieri spat on the ground and glared at Hamlet, gripping his twin swords tightly. "I still haven't settled the score with you from earlier. If you hadn't insisted on bringing those injured guys along, we wouldn't have almost died."

"They are companions." Hamlet retorted with an unyielding glare.

"You're brain-damaged, aren't you? Because of your moralistic tendencies, five more people died unnecessarily. They could have escaped!" Vieiri grabbed Hale's collar and pulled him forward, spitting a star-shaped glob of saliva in his face.

Hale fell silent, his empty eyes gazing at the white clouds in the sky, his face filled with self-blame and confusion. He didn't want to give up on his companions, but because of this decision, even more people died.

"I'm never teaming up with you again, didn't getting us killed once already enough?" Fanny also joined the ranks of those who were complaining.

"That's enough, shut up." Hannah glanced at Hamlet, hesitated for a moment, and then spoke up, "The adventure team is on the verge of being wiped out, there's no need to continue, let's disband here, goodbye."

Hanna didn't wait for Halle's response and turned around to start her journey back.

The two Vieli hastened to follow, and after walking more than thirty steps, a heart-wrenching cry suddenly entered their ears.

"Hey, look! That guy is actually crying." Fanny was like she had discovered a new continent, tugging on Hannah's collar to make her turn around.

Hale knelt on the ground, his right hand constantly pounding the ground, venting the sense of powerlessness in his heart.

"Hannah, you can't be soft-hearted, you must remember the lesson this time!" Hannah didn't turn back, her right hand clenched tightly, her fingernails almost piercing through her skin.

Compared to Hamlet who wandered alone without relying on anyone, Hannah remembered her father's teachings and knew what to do at this time.

"What if Lord Downton were to find out that his one good deed had exposed a secret, I wonder how he would feel?" Vieri sighed. "Although it's unfair to him, the tomb must be obtained."

"Hannah's sister is really something, if it were someone else, they would absolutely not notice these details!" Fanny hugged Hannah's arm and rubbed her cheek against it, as for Tangdon that commoner, she didn't even put him in her heart.

Unbeknownst to Hannah and her group, Tanton was currently speeding towards Morning Mist Town, thinking of replenishing his supplies quickly before hurrying back to the underground city to cultivate.

The Robinson trio won't give Downton much time. Once they find out he's still alive, it will be a relentless pursuit to the death.

The nearest stud farm to Morning Mist Town is twenty miles away, near North Valley Logging Camp. The owner, Layman, is a retired military officer who, apart from having a bit of a temper, is not a bad person.

Leyman often contacted his comrades, and the number of letters and packages sent was also high. Occasionally, he found that as long as it was a letter brought by Tong Dun, it would be kept brand new, even if several silver coins were added, he would always ask him to take care of it specifically.

Downton and the footman exchanged greetings, walked a few steps, and saw Layman riding a magnificent black horse, galloping wildly across the marked racecourse like a gust of wind.

After running three laps, Layman finally slowed down reluctantly, letting his mount trot over with a light and quick pace.

"Ha, what brings the first postman of our western border to my humble abode?" Layman teased Tongdon, stroking the horse's neck. "How about it? Want to take a ride?"

Due to Downton's serious attitude towards mail, Layman has always had a good impression of him and wanted him to work in the horse farm, but he didn't agree.

"Uncle Leyman, I've come to buy a horse." A hint of a smile played on Danton's lips. "Will you let me ride Black Jack?"

"Of course not." Layman burst out laughing and affectionately stroked Black Jack's mane, just like he would with his own family.

This forty-year-old sturdy man is so straightforward, whatever he says, will never be hidden in his heart.

"But you're an exception, how about it? Changed your mind and come work for me instead? I'll double the salary I mentioned last time." Leyman's gaze turned to Danton, his eyes still razor-sharp like bloody steel knives despite being far from the battlefield.

"Sorry, Uncle!" Tong Dun was very embarrassed, but still refused. He had heard some rumors about Lai Man that weren't good, and he didn't want to get entangled with the old man.

"Never mind, everyone has their own aspirations." Layman sighed, such a good talent, it's a pity to give up, "Come on, I'll take you to see the horse!"

The stables cover a vast area, with a length of over 200 meters, which can accommodate up to 100 horses.

To keep warm at night, the stable was filled with straw, although the horse dung had been swept away very cleanly, there was still a strong smell of dung.

Leyman was already accustomed to this environment and even took a deep breath, with an intoxicated expression on his face.

In the stables divided by fences on both sides, stood tall horses with smooth and tidy hair, looking majestic.

"Are you blind?" Layman said proudly of his horse. "If you're going to ride a messenger, choose one with endurance."

"No, I want the racing type of horse, one that can sprint quickly over short distances." Danton bought horses not only for transportation but mainly to escape from ghouls' pursuit, so he could shake them off in the shortest time possible and enter the teleportation gate inside the inn.

"This one, compared to Black Jack, is only five seconds slower in running a lap!" Layman walked a few steps and pointed to a sorrel horse for Danton to see, introducing its merits.

"Uncle, apart from Black Jack, which is the fastest horse here?" Danton didn't want to waste any more time. Black Jack was Layman's treasured darling and definitely wouldn't be sold, so he could only settle for second best.

"Of course it's Black Emperor." Layman led Danton to the largest stable, and just by looking at the treatment, you could tell that it was extraordinary.

"What's with the names you've given them, they're all the same as those famous warhorses?" Danton smiled, whether it was Black Jack or Black Emperor, they were all renowned mounts, and their owners were all accomplished big shots.

"Heh heh, sounds cool." Layman grabbed a handful of hay and put it into the manger. "Look at that, tall and majestic in build, with a beautiful long neck, and a gait full of elasticity. Riding on it, even the most arduous journey would become enjoyable."

The big black horse snorted loudly and its large eyes turned towards Downton.

"I'll take it!" Danton stretched out his hand and stroked its back, and with just one glance, he fell in love with this black horse.

His entire body was covered with long, raised muscles, each one full of strength, yet looking neither bloated nor cumbersome, but rather streamlined and symmetrical.

The black emperor simply shook his head, stepped on it, and made the mane swing, revealing a gentle temperament.

"Although it's a crossbreed, its excellence is beyond doubt... huh, what? Bought?" Layman was speaking with flying spittle, but when he heard Downton's words, he suddenly stuttered and stared at him in shock, "What did you say, bought?"

"I said this horse, I bought it."

Hei Huang seemed to know he had a new master, stuck out his tongue and licked Tang Don's face.

"This horse is worth 20,000 gold Delran, are you sure?" Layman's intention was simply to bring Tongdon over to admire the warhorse and share his joy of raising horses. He didn't think this young man could afford it at all, calling him the "First Post" was just a joke.

Downton was famous among those young postmen, but elsewhere he was just a worthless little pauper.

"Alright!" Tong Dong nodded solemnly, a hint of an arc at the corner of his mouth. "Uncle Leiman, don't worry, cash payment!"
