Chapter Sixty: The Person Destined by Fate

  ♂?,,

Heavy snow is falling, and the sky and earth are a vast expanse of whiteness.

Thin wisps of smoke rose slowly, like mysterious spirits, happily dancing in the white cloud mist woven from snow and wind.

Liu Feng walked out of the tent, took a deep breath of the first snow's air, and in that cold but refreshing breath, there was a hint of faint meat fragrance. At this moment, it was already dusk, just the right time to bury the pot and cook dinner.

Seven days have passed since the Battle of Lu Shan, and Zou Fang's body and the victory report have been sent to Xia Kou. However, after waiting for seven days, there was no fresh response, only a simple order from Guan Yu, ordering him to continue defending the camp at Lu Shan and not to engage in battle without orders.

Those hidden enemies in the dark did not make a move for the time being, and Liu Feng could only wait and see.

He raised his head to gaze at the vast sky, and snowflakes the size of fingernails danced on his face, soon melting into tiny droplets of water from his body heat. The feeling was cool, yet very pleasant.

A sudden first snow seemed to calm Liu Feng's mood a lot, and when he calmed down, he began to think about how to leave Liu Bei. However, how to untie the knot of "Liu Bei's son" was indeed a puzzle that could not be solved no matter how hard he thought.

She let out a gentle sigh, and the warm white air dispersed the snowflakes on her face.

"Report to the young master, we caught a guy who wants to go west from Lushan. We suspect he's a Cao army spy, but no matter how we interrogate him, he won't say anything and insists on seeing the young master." A team leader came to report.

Now that the north and south are at war, the Yangtze River has been blocked off, and no one is allowed to cross except for those with special permits. It's not unusual for spies to be caught these days. What puzzles Liu Feng, however, is why this particular spy insisted on seeing him.

  "Bring him to see me."

After Liu Feng gave the order, he turned around and returned to the large tent that was warm as spring due to the charcoal fire. The chill on his body quickly dissipated. Liu Feng sat upright at his desk, flipping through the book scrolls while leisurely sipping hot tea.

After a cup of tea, the scholar was brought in.

"I heard you wanted to see me, now that you've seen me, can you admit it?" Liu Feng's attention was still focused on the copy of "Sun Tzu's Annotations" on his desk, without even lifting his head.

No plea for mercy or anything else was heard, but a strange and mirthless laugh, the sound of which seemed to come from the crack in the door, like a cold wind that had slipped in unnoticed, sending a shiver down Liu Feng's spine.

Liu Feng raised his head, and the person who entered his line of sight was a short and thin middle-aged man. His beard was dry and sparse, his skin was dark with a yellowish tint, as if he had been lacking nutrition for a long time. His appearance was not only mediocre, but even had a few points of ugliness. However, upon closer inspection, those small eyes were half-open and half-closed, shining brightly, and on his flat forehead there was a deep wrinkle like a knife cut, as if it contained the vicissitudes of life that had been seen through.

Intuition told Liu Feng that this unusual and unassuming man in front of him was probably not an ordinary person.

"Give this gentleman a seat." Liu Feng's attitude became more polite.

The soldiers were stunned, unable to understand why their young master was suddenly so polite to a lowly servant, but they didn't dare disobey orders, and could only add a cushion beside the main seat with a bewildered heart.

The middle-aged man was not polite at all, and he sat down calmly, smiling and saying: "In the cold winter, a cup of warm tea to drive out the chill is the way to treat guests."

He acted as if he had arrived at his own home, and even asked for tea, the soldiers who brought him immediately became angry, just about to shout, but were stopped by Liu Feng's raised hand.

"Just pour him a cup of hot tea."

Liu Feng smiled slightly, his eagle eyes wandering up and down the middle-aged man, guessing in his heart about this person's identity and background.

The seat is taken, the tea is served, and that middle-aged man is enjoying himself without any reserve, as if all the people around him were transparent air, treating them as if they didn't exist.

Having mixed with Liu Bei, Liu Feng has been tempered into a pair of piercing eyes, what is hypocritical acting and what is real revelation, all cannot escape his sharp eyes.

So Liu Feng could see that the man in front of him, who looked ordinary, was acting according to his surname, and it was hard to find any flaws in his actions.

Looking at the middle-aged man who had already dispelled his chill, Liu Feng cupped his hands and asked: "I am Liu Feng, I haven't asked for your esteemed surname and great name yet, sir."

The middle-aged man still lowered his head and only drank tea, as if he hadn't heard Liu Feng speak. After a while, he slowly squeezed out two words from between his teeth: "Pang Tong".

  Pang Tong!

A name that was like thunder in his ears, brought Liu Feng a deep shock, he really did not expect that the person sitting in front of him at this moment would be the legendary Phoenix Ju, who was as famous as Zhuge Liang.

  "What a huge surprise indeed."

After Pang Tong's self-introduction, all of Liu Feng's previous speculations became clear. The person in front of him with an unusual appearance was actually a master who could influence the situation under heaven. It was also reasonable that the words and deeds of such a master had some peculiarities.

Liu Feng hastily composed himself and stood up, cupping his hands in a salute: "So it's Mr. Shi Yuan, I've long admired you from afar, I didn't know you were coming, please forgive my lack of courtesy."

Pong Tong has the self-confidence of a superior man, but that doesn't mean he's impolite. Seeing Liu Feng being so courteous, he also stood up and returned the courtesy: "Tong is just a carefree cloud and wild crane, General Liu is too kind. This time I just want to borrow a road to go west, I don't know if General Liu can let me pass."

Going west from Lushan is Wulin, where Cao Cao's main base is. Is it possible that Pang Tong is going to surrender to Cao Cao?

As his mind was racing, Liu Feng suddenly thought of something. He remained calm and expressionless for the time being, but looked embarrassed: "If it were an ordinary situation, I would still want to personally escort Mr. westward, but now the Jiangxia waterway has been sealed off and anyone who wants to cross the river must hold a special permit. However, Mr. does not have such a permit, and if I let him go westward like this, I'm afraid it would be against military orders."

Liu Feng found this excuse, actually wanting to temporarily keep Pang Tong behind. All along, he had hoped to have a wise and knowledgeable person to guide him, and the Phoenix chick who was delivered to his doorstep was the perfect candidate. Having met him, how could Liu Feng easily let him leave?

Pang Tong's dry lips moved slightly, and he took out a letter from his bosom. With a hint of a smile, he said, "I left in a hurry and didn't have time to get any travel documents. However, this thing might be able to persuade General Liu to let me pass."

Liu Feng received the silk letter, unfolded it and took a look. It was a brief letter, and the handwriting looked somewhat familiar. After careful consideration, he realized that it was Zhuge Liang's handwriting.

The letter had only one short line of words: The outcome depends on Shi Yuan, ensure safe passage.
