Chapter 56

Ninya looked at her reflection. Mistress Yuri was kind enough to lend them such a valuable object and even allowed them to change inside her mansion. Whatever she and Lord Antikythera talked about must have involved Ninya herself. Maybe she was told that Ninya would be leaving the vilge? No, that didn't make sense—she's not that important.

Ninya decided to stop thinking about it and focus on her new gear instead; she had a bck jacket—this is what Lord Antikythera called it—with a yellow interior. Dark grey pants with bck external pockets sat on top of her legs, tightly tucked under the mouth of her combat boots. For added protection, Ninya also had a heavy-set gas mask that only covered the lower half of her face, one that she didn't recognize in the slightest and made with a smooth, light material that was rough to the touch.

Ninya threw it on and looked at herself. She didn't recognize the girl in the mirror. She had never owned this type of clothing before, and not to mention, she had never cleaned herself so extensively. On that end, Mistress Yuri's bathroom was a lot. It was also bigger than her and Tsuare's bedroom.

Oh, and Tsuare's gear looked great too! Unlike Ninya, she had a much slender figure. Her jacket—bck with red streaks—is as baggy as Ninya's, but her leggings were a tight fit. It actually made Tsuare embarrassed, but Mistress Yuri reassured them that they looked good. This at least put her sister's mind at ease.

Ninya grabbed the mouth of her gloves and pulled them down her wrist. This is so much more comfortable than the leather gloves she wore whenever she helped with their neighbors' gardens in the past.

Quality. Ninya's thoughts came to a grinding halt, and she couldn't help but stare at the gloves. This alone must cost so much when sold in the capital's most luxurious market. She's heard that the Baharuth Empire is wealthy too, but even the merchants there would kneel just to buy her gloves.

What about her clothes? Her jacket? Pants? Boots? Magic staff? Her GUN? Everything she had on her person must cost a fortune, even for an emperor, and yet Lord Antikythera gave them two pairs like it was nothing.

  Just who was he?

"Mistress Yuri?" Ninya called the noble by the name she asked them to call her.

Yuri Alpha looked away from the logbook she was reading and faced the young girl. Antikythera went above and beyond her clothes, huh? It is of the same quality as the clothes that Asuka, Aoi, and Hana wore, albeit without the corresponding enchantments of those outfits.

Still, Lord Antikythera had invested a lot in the human girl. Why that is, Yuri Alpha could only guess. The floor guardian was too pragmatic to truly read his actions, and worst of all, he does not feel emotions the same way other creatures did. Most would assume that he had given them such gear out of sentimentality, but Yuri Alpha knew better—there was a purpose behind gifting Ninya and Tsuare such items.

"Yes?" Yuri Alpha met the human's eyes. She didn't seem like much. Really. Just a regur girl with a talent that caught the eye of even Lord Ainz. Yuri had to admit that she did have potential, of course, but not out loud.

"Who are you people?" Ninya asked with a pensive look. The girl ignored her sister's gre and looked at Yuri with eyes that wanted to know the truth. "You're rich, powerful, and are incredibly smart. I've never heard of you before though, is that weird?"

"No, not at all." Yuri Alpha shook her head. "You are not wrong in asking this, but I'm afraid I cannot give you a satisfying answer, as the only ones who would be able to do that are the Supreme Beings. I do not know why we came here, nor do I know how Nazarick is so powerful. All I am sure of is that everything came from the same source in the end."

"The Supreme Beings. Gods?" Ninya said in awe. "Are they still here?"

"Only one is left." Yuri bit back the bitterness that had consumed her tone. "Most of them have perished." Lord Ainz has stated that the others are out there somewhere, but if they were, then why haven't they come to Nazarick yet? "But rest assured, Nazarick stands strong thanks to their creations and the resources they left behind."

"I-Is Lord Antikythera a Supreme Being?" Ninya asked reluctantly. She panicked and fumbled with her jacket. When her hand emerged from its depths, a sigil rested between her fingers. "He gave me this. What does this mean?"

"That is Lord Amanomahitotsu's sigil." Yuri Alpha let the slight of Antikythera being mistaken for a Supreme Being go. He must have imprinted quite well on the girl for her to assume as such. "The physical recreation of his creator's emblem."

"Oh..." Ninya stared at the sigil. "I... He's an orphan?"

"Yes," Yuri Alpha nodded. She supposed Ninya would see the situation as such. After all, Lord Antikythera was created by Lord Amanomahitotsu's hands. "But he is not grieving. He is, however, continuing the legacy of his maker."

"Lord Amanomahitotsu must have been an amazing craftsman, huh?" Tsuare had a sad smile on her face as she said this. "For him to create such an amazing being."

"He is one of the best," Yuri Alpha confirmed. From her memories, she knew that Lord Amanomahitotsu had a top 50 global ranking as a bcksmith. Whatever that meant.

"Well, uhm... My condolences." Tsuare bowed. "Sorry for making you talk about this."

"It is fine," Yuri Alpha said. She went back to her logbook once the two humans had chosen to go silent.

"Uhm, we'll take our leave," Ninya said awkwardly. "See you. Soon—I mean goodbye. That's what I meant, yeah."

"Goodbye." Yuri Alpha waved as the two humans left.

Ninya stepped out of the gates and breathed out a sigh of relief. That was incredibly awkward! She didn't know how much longer she could have stayed there! Seriously, why did she have to ask that question?

Next to her, Tsuare slumped. "You shouldn't have asked that."

"I know that!" Ninya pointed at her sister. "Bleh, I can't believe that I was that insensitive."

Tsuare smiled and patted her head. "Still, how does it feel to know that your teacher was made by a god? Or is the son of one, even!"

"I—I don't know." Ninya meant it. She didn't know how to feel when it came to the new things she just learned. "Maybe we should move on? I'm sure that we need at least a few hours to walk to the capital, right? I just hope we get a carriage on the way there..."

Tsuare nodded. "I hope so too!"

As the two of them made their way out of the vilge, they got strange looks from the rest of the vilgers. Unlike Ninya, they were treated normally by Lord Antikythera—which is to say, left alone to their own vices. They didn't receive support the same way she and her sister did, and that must have been why they avoided the two of them like the pgue. At least the army of riflemen Mistress Yuri was training greeted them with nods. Ninya returned the gesture with a small smile.

"Their uniforms looked so scary, didn't they?" Tsuare muttered as they reached the outskirts of the vilge. "They all had coats and full-faced masks. It makes them feel a bit intimidating, right?"

Ninya shrugged. "I don't know about you, but I wasn't scared." She stuck her tongue out at Tsuare. "You won't become an adventurer like this, you know?"

  "Why you!?"

  Ninya ran, ughing.
